Sinus problems - the emotional causes
Dampness and phlegm is a cause of disease in Chinese Medicine.
However phlegm is also one of the physical body’s most important defence mechanisms, not just against pathogens but also in emotional situations:
Phlegm damps down any emotions that are detrimental and might have a physiological effect . It slows everything down, often blocking the senses from taking anymore information in from the external world.
The other factor that goes hand in hand with sinus problems is headaches and a tight neck.
What this says in the language of the body is that firstly all the energy is in the head and it is getting ‘stuck’ there. Secondly the neck is saying that there is a conflict going on that involves a certain amount of frustration, enough to tighten the muscles and stop the flow of lymph through the neck.
So therefore sinus problems arise when there is overthinking and being too much in the head, making decisions is often a reason for this, or rather, feeling unable to make a decision. People pleasing, wanting to avoid a confrontation, trying to think of every forward case scenario that might occur with every possible decision, not standing in your own power and not following your gut instinct are all reasons that contribute to this problem manifesting.
The build up of phlegm is the physical version of your thoughts blocking you up, preventing you from moving forward or doing what it is that you really want to do in either this situation, or more chronically what you really want to do in your life.
Chances are that you know the answers to the deeper questions already:
What was going on before the problem started?
What situation are you overthinking?
What situation are you trying to avoid, escape from or switch off from?. .
